Types of Grant Assistance



Housing Preservation Grant

The Housing Preservation Grant allows home repair for very low and low-income homeowners.  This assistance can be used for repairs and rehabilitation, removal or correction of health and safety hazards, compliance with development standards or codes including improved accessiblity for disabled persons.  Applicants are serviced on a first come first serve basis.

The Housing Preservation Grant procedure is as follows:

  1. A public announcement will be published in the local newspaper.
  2. Interested homeowners will submit an application to determine eligibility.
  3. Homeowners will be notified in writing of income/homeownership eligiblity status.
  4. The State Housing Preservation Office (SHPO) will be notified to determine historic value of the home.
  5. Flood zone locations will be verified and the home will have to pass an inspection.



Community Services Block Grant

The Community Services Block Grant provides assistance with utility, food, medicine, rental payments, water, ramps, tuition, housing, counseling services, school supplies, and non-food items. 

Applicants must provide:

  1. A disconnect notice or a notice of termination.
  2. Valid documentation for the need of services being requested.



Weatherization Assistance Program 

The Weatherization Assistance Program provides minor home repairs to residents of Assumption Parish.  It is used to reduce energy consumption, fuel costs, and improve the level of comfort.  WAP also provides information and referrals.

The appliant must:

  1. Provide a driver's license/ID.
  2. Provide most recent utility bills.
